Prepare For A House Fire

Posted on

it only takes a house fire a few minutes to consume an entire room. House fires can be absolutely devastating to a homeowner. Unfortunately house fires are much too common; there were approximately 501,000 house fires, that caused approximately 2,500 civilian deaths, 13,000 civilian injuries, and $10.3 billion in property damage. This is a scary number and many people do not even take the time to ensure their home is safe when it comes to a house fire. Luckily there are a few different things that you can do that will protect your family from a fire.

Fire Alarm System

There are many people that install security systems in their home. This is to protect against break-ins, but a burglar only takes a few valuables that can be replaced. A fire takes absolutely everything, including the family heirlooms. So, it is a great idea to install a fire alarm system in your home. The main thing that you are paying for when you have a fire alarm is the response time. Fires can spread quickly, and your number one priority is to get you and your loved ones out of the home. While you are escaping, the alarm will be contacting the authorities. Often this response time can occur within seconds of the alarm sounding. By the time you get out of the house, the fire department could be on their way.

Sprinkler Systems

Water will always be one of the most effective ways to fight fire, and you can have water flowing through your home at all times. You can have a fire sprinkler system installed in your home. The fire sprinkler systems have water flowing through them at all times but the glycerin filled glass cup is stopping the flow of water. When the home is on fire the glycerin quickly boils and shatters the glass. This releases the water to flow freely through the sprinkler heads.

Escape Plan

Probably the most important thing that you can do, especially if you have children, is make a plan for a fire emergency. If you do not feel comfortable creating the plan yourself, reach out the the local fire department and have them explain the best way to escape during a fire. This will give you and your loved ones a plan of action and peace of mind during a fire emergency. Do not get caught unprepared when it comes to fire.
